Y2K meets corporate chic in Miu Miu SS22. Rather than doing away with the business dress code, Miuccia Prada quite literally chops it in half. Resurrecting the low rise, ultra mini skirt and pairing it with cutoff business shirts and knitwear, Miu Miu SS22 sets about redefining corporate wear.

Opting for a less is more approach when it comes to material, the resultant Miu Miu SS22 collection was something like a 2000s Christina Aguilera taking on an office job. Cropped knits and collared shirts serve to exaggerate the proportions of the tiny box-pleated mini skirts they’re teamed with, displaying an expanse of torso. Low rise extended beyond mini skirts and into other elements of workwear, with the fit translating to pants, midi skirts in suiting and satin fabrics, and long shorts.
While the controversial low rise trend and sexy corporate aesthetic marked a deviation from the Italian fashion house’s usual collections, Miu Miu’s typically preppy styling remained throughout; outfits are teamed not with heels, but with crew socks and loafers or sneakers. And, fans of Miu Miu’s classic embellished garments were not left uncatered for, with embellished duchess satin suits and a particularly striking green dress standing out amongst the slashed shirting.
Although much of Miu Miu SS22 is more of a corporate fantasy, it did provide some feasible styling tips for the ‘new corporate’ many of us are slowly returning to. Cable knit sweater and midi skirt sets teamed with t-bar heels are positively cosy winter office options; satin suiting makes for a striking appearance in the boardroom; box-pleated midi skirts with tonal knitwear is practically conservative; and the socks with loafers styling is achievable by pretty much everyone. And who knows; perhaps some savvy officegoers will manage to make the corporate crop top work.
But the question still lingers: do we really need to see Sharon from accounting’s belly button?
