Wah! Call My Mummy, Gigi Hadid Stole My Bottle For Moschino Spring 2022 :(

One of the true masters of camp, Jeremy Scott at Moschino is a force to be reckoned with. From all-out musicals to a Marie Antoinette-inspired runway that was nothing short of a masterpiece, Scott knows how to put on a show. For the Moschino Spring 2022 show, Scott presented ‘Ladies Who Lunch’, however, a more apt name would be Babies Who Lunch.

“It’s very ladies who lunch, but it’s also nursery rhymes, so it’s baby lady,” Scott said to Vogue of the theme. He went on to say that the collection nods to The Nanny, as “Fran Drescher wore so much Franco Moschino, iconic little suits that were such a signature of the brand and that moment.” While we do indeed agree that Fran Fine’s outfits on The Nanny were nothing short of iconic, we’re still stuck on…uh, baby lady?

The little suits Franco Moschino was known for were out in full force, with Gigi Hadid opening the show in a cropped pale blue number with an embroidered yellow trim. The impeccable silhouette was repeated for much of the show, joined by short suits, quilted babydoll coats, and fitted sheath dresses. However, the twee cartoon bears, bunnies, mice, elephants, giraffes, and cats emblazoned across each piece sent a somewhat confusing message; with garments not quite hitting that fun, campy aesthetic Scott is known for, nor being suitable as actual daywear (also I could be wrong and hot pants covered in cartoon bears, letters, and flowers may perhaps be a covetable item).

Regardless, it must be said that there is something a little disconcerting about seeing grown women strutting down the runway holding baby bottles or wearing mini dresses adorned with a belt of nappy pins. Here’s hoping for another French Renaissance calibre Moschino show soon.
