Saint Laurent Women’s Winter 2021 Collection Toes The Line Between Classy & Trashy

The patron saint of locales has done it again. From the Eiffel Tower to an unspecified desert, Anthony Vaccarello, creative director at Saint Laurent, isn’t afraid to contend with a breathtaking backdrop. This time, it comes in the form of the natural beauty of rocky cliff faces, icebergs, crashing waves, volcanic ash, and a beach that glistens in the dark, with the Saint Laurent Women’s Winter 2021 collection providing a touch of wanderlust amongst the sartorial offerings.

Rather than catering to those dreaming of the promise of tomorrow, the Saint Laurent Women’s Winter 2021 collection is for the woman of today. You know, the average woman who traverses rugged landscapes in barely there miniskirts, teetering stilettos, hot pants, and stretchy metallic bodysuits.

As Vaccarello puts it, “serious matters push you to take other things less seriously, finding the balance while staying on the edge is a sophisticated aptitude.”

Reinterpreting the bourgeois codes of Yves Saint Laurent, Vaccarello’s Saint Laurent Women’s Winter 2021 nods to Monsieur Yves Saint Laurent by reimagining refined suits cut from classic menswear fabrics in an ‘80s-esque colour palette which clashes brilliantly with the moody, monochromatic backdrop. Partially inspired by ‘90s musician Peaches, the collection is an abundance of contradictions; simultaneously classy and trashy, polished and gauche.
