Still need convincing that the Gold Coast is on the up? Mondrian Hotels & Residences is here to do the heavy lifting, with the luxury hospitality brand set to make its Australian debut — eschewing typical hotspots like Sydney and Melbourne in favour of the Gold Coast.

Slated for opening in 2025, the Mondrian Gold Coast will join a portfolio of luxury hotels and residences that includes locations in Cannes, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Seoul, and Ibiza. Mondrian refers to its hotels as ‘creative hives’, using dream-like spaces to immerse guests in the idiosyncratic culture and energy of each location it inhabits. In line with this ethos, Mondrian Gold Coast will unfold over a 24-storey building designed by Fraser & Partners, which captures views of both the beach and hinterlands.

Located in Burleigh Heads, the property will comprise 208 studios, suites, and home, including two- and three-bedroom beach houses and what’s set to be a lavish penthouse. Interiors by Studio Carter are informed by the visual interplay between the white sand beaches and the palm tree-lined sky, with the design characterised by organic, curvilinear forms and an earthy, coastal-inspired colour palette.

Amenities will include a pool club, wellness space and spa, and a hybrid events space, as well as a hospitality offering spanning multiple restaurants and cafes. Multidisciplinary architecture practice Alexander &Co. will be responsible for the design of the ground-floor restaurant, which will take on an indoor-outdoor feel and aims to capture the energy and buzz of Burleigh Heads’ streets. Meanwhile, the third floor restaurant—flanked by the pool club—looks out onto the ocean and highlights local produce.

“Over the last couple of years, we have seen a rising demand for lifestyle brands, where locals and international guests are looking for authentic, creative and immersive experiences—all the hallmarks of the Mondrian brand,” said Chadi Farhat, brand COO of Mondrian Hotels & Residences. “It felt a natural choice to bring Mondrian to the Gold Coast and we believe it will resonate strongly with the local market and lend something entirely new to the hospitality space.”
