The Hublot Big Bang Steel Zermatt Is An Ode To Pure Rugged Alpine Beauty

A celebration of Swiss beauty, both natural and manmade, the Hublot Big Bang Steel Zermatt is an ode to the relationship between the luxury watch manufacturer and the resort town nestled at the base of the Matterhorn. The story between Hublot and Zermatt began in 2017, when the two entities joined forces to celebrate their inherent ‘Swissness’ through a collaborative timepiece. Since then, Hublot has solidified its relationship with the alpine town by regularly adding to the Zermatt collection as well as opening a boutique at the heart of the resort, with the latter composed entirely of wood out of respect to local architecture traditions.

The new Hublot Big Bang Zermatt releases combine Swiss tradition with contemporary watchmaking, capturing the natural beauty of Zermatt within the modern yet timeless aesthetic of Hublot’s creations. Both the Hublot Big Bang Steel Zermatt and Hublot Big Bang Steel Diamonds Zermatt utilise — as the name suggests — steel cases, representing a return to the basics. The cases feature both polished and satin-finished surfaces, mirroring the reflection of schist, a type of Swiss stone that forms a large portion of the Matterhorn. Meanwhile, the sunray finished dial emulates the multivarious faces of the mountain under the shifting sun.

Both editions boast the key distinguishing feature present on all Big Bang Zermatt watches; the Matterhorn at 9 o’clock on the steel model and 3 o’clock on the steel and diamonds model. The latter is marketed towards women and features a bezel encrusted with 36 diamonds, which also punctuate the house indices. The Hublot Big Bang Steel Zermatt measures in at 44mm while the Hublot Big Bang Steel Diamonds Zermatt is a slightly smaller 41mm; both watches are powered by a self-winding chronograph and presented with two leather straps, one in slate grey and the second in snow white./ga

The steel version is priced at approx. $22,290AUD (14,300CHF) while the steel and diamonds variation is priced at approx. $28,200AUD (18,100CHF). Both timepieces are available via the Hublot webstore.
