Two-tone watches often get a bad rap. So do all yellow gold watches. Both are inextricably associated with the excess of the 1980s; the former often derided as ‘cheap’ due to its predominant stainless steel construction, while the latter is shrugged off as ostentatious. Fortunately, Piaget’s latest manages to circumvent both criticisms by creating a two-tone watch that looks a touch more understated than full yellow gold, while leaving stainless steel out of the equation altogether.

The Piaget Polo 79 Two-Tone is the third outing in a new era that began in 2024, with the launch of the Piaget Polo 79. The Piaget Polo 79 was released in line with the 45th anniversary of the Piaget Polo, an integrated bracelet timepiece that blended sporty and elegant codes and boasted full gold construction. “A bracelet watch and a watch bracelet,” as Yves Piaget used to say.
Clad in full yellow gold, it was followed up by an all white gold iteration in 2025. Now, rose gold would be predictable, so Piaget has gone and released a two-tone version. Rather than bring stainless steel—the metal du jour for sports watches—into the mix, Piaget remains true to its ethos of extravagant elegance, rendering the Polo 79 Two-Tone in a combination of white gold and yellow gold.

The 38mm case of the Piaget Polo 79 Two-Tone is predominantly crafted from brushed white gold, punctuated by polished gold gadroons, resulting in an interplay of colour and texture. The sword-shaped hands are also in yellow gold, popping against the dial which flows seamlessly into the bracelet.
The specifications remain unchanged from its predecessors, with the Piaget Polo 79 Two-Tone kept running by the ultra-thin manufacture calibre 1200P1, an automatic movement with a solid gold micro-rotor. Measuring just 2.35mm thick (or, should we say thin?), it allows the solid gold timepiece to maintain slimline proportions and wear comfortably on the wrist.

Representing a step up from the stainless steel laden two-tone of yesteryear, the Piaget Polo 79 Two-Tone is ideally suited to stealth wealth tech bros and undercover trust fund babies desirous of putting their money where their wrists are without anyone knowing about it, or wannabe mob wives in search of a little ‘80s charm.
While not limited in allocation, the Piaget Polo 79 Two-Tone will be produced in limited quantities each year, and is priced at $154,000AUD.
