Fitted with a duo of tourbillon mechanisms, the Zenith DEFY Extreme Double Tourbillon takes things to, well, the extreme. Building on Zenith’s prestige in high-precision chronograph manufacturing, the movement is equipped with two independent tourbillons, a time-keeping tourbillon and a chronograph tourbillon, that complete rotations in 60 seconds and 5 seconds respectively. Beating at the awe-inducing rate of 360,000 VpH, the Zenith DEFY Extreme Double Tourbillon represents the only 1/100th of a second chronograph movement.
The signature angular DEFY case takes on robust 45mm proportions and is available in two iterations. The first is crafted solely from titanium — including the bracelet — with a mix of satin-brushed, polished, and matte surfaces. The second takes on a carbon fibre constriction and featured a sandblasted matte rose gold twelve-sized bezel and pusher protectors, and is presented on a black rubber strap. The skeleton dial with applied chronograph counters showcases an unobstructed view of the dual tourbillon mechanisms, with its star-shaped cages.
A mix of metals and textures in the movement creates a striking effect. The decoration takes on a contemporary contrasting look, with its open and satin-brushed bridges coated in black PVD before being highlighted with a rose gold hue, emphasising their geometric forms. A marked departure from the fixtures of traditional horology, it’s in line with Zenith’s recent haute horlogerie creations.
The Zenith DEFY Extreme Double Tourbillon is priced at $114,400AUD for the carbon fibre edition and $100,000AUD for the titanium edition. Both timepieces are available via the Zenith webstore.
