Viktor&Rolf Flowerbomb Ruby Orchid Proves Vanilla Can Be Carnal

Not your grandmother’s vanilla.

Can vanilla be…erotic? Sweet, definitely. Alluring, sometimes. Sexy, occasionally. A scent more often than not associated with baking and enveloping you in a warm, almost maternal hug upon the first inhalation, vanilla is never really thought of as carnal. Dutch avant-garde luxury fashion house Viktor&Rolf are looking to change that, with Flowerbomb Ruby Orchid, the latest flanker in the Flowerbomb collection.

“Flowerbomb is an explosion of flowers,” Viktor&Rolf explains. “With Ruby Orchid, we really wanted to put orchids centre stage. This is really a new chapter in the Flowerbomb story. Ruby Orchid is a very feminine, erotic version of Flowerbomb.”

While the original Viktor&Rolf Flowerbomb accompanies an array of white florals with vanilla, bergamot, and green tea to create a fresh floral scent that’s sweet without being cloying, Viktor&Rolf Flowerbomb Ruby Orchid takes a somewhat darker approach. Swapping romantic white florals for a creamy, rich ruby orchid flower accord and a more sophisticated take on vanilla in the form of red vanilla bean, it’s creamy, intoxicating, and almost carnal. An accord of peach and red fruits lend Flowerbomb Ruby Orchid a dessert-like sweetness, though the peach itself is almost indiscernible.

What prevents Viktor&Rolf Flowerbomb Ruby Orchid from being overly heady is both its projection and longevity. Much like a carnal night, Flowerbomb Ruby Orchid stays close to the skin and probably won’t stick around until morning. However, it does have quite an impressive sillage, lingering in the air as you pass.

Perhaps it’s best this fragrance is more of a skin scent; seductive, but only for those who get close enough.

Scent notes: peach, vine, ruby orchid accord, red vanilla bean
