Reconciling the Italian heritage with its future, the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale marks the rebirth of its ‘fuoriserie’ (custom-built) program; the last of which was released in 1969.

First released in 1967, the 33 Stradale saw designer Franco Scaglione draw inspiration from the 1-of-18 Tipo 33, combining racecar performance with comfort and daily drivability. Widely regarded as one of the most beautiful cars of all time, the reborn 33 Stradale sees coachbuilder Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera retain the pure lines of the original, exaggerating its proportions to cater to contemporary tastes.

The sinewy lines and striking glass cockpit of the original remain, as do the marque’s signature rounded front and V on the hood. Dramatically enlarged fenders, bulbous air intakes, a dynamic lighting package, and butterfly doors are among the new additions. The flowing front end is juxtaposed by the sharp rear, which features a truncated tail with a V-shaped graphic, accentuated by round light clusters.

Inside, the cockpit is akin to that of a fighter jet. Its minimalist approach promotes an active driving experience. Stripped of components that could potentially pose a distraction, the steering wheel is left bare, with a single retractable digital display. The low centre console features aluminium controls that toggle between various driving modes.

The chassis of the new Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale is also a throwback to its namesake. Featuring a mid-engined layout, it’s driven by the Maserati MC20’s 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 which delivers 620 bhp to the rear wheels by way of an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. There’s also an all-electric configuration, which consists of three motors and generates over 750 horses with a driving range of 385 kilometres.

Both the ICE and EV iterations dart from 0 to 100km/h in under three seconds with a top speed of 333km/h.

“With the new 33 Stradale, we wanted to create something that lived up to our past, to serve the brand and to make the Alfisti fandom proud,” says Jean-Philippe Imparato, CEO of Alfa Romeo. “This is the brand’s first “fuoriserie” (custom-built) car since 1969, and I promise it won’t be the last.”

Limited to 33 examples, the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale is priced at approx. AUD$2.84 million. Naturally, all have already been accounted for.
