The villain maketh the man. After all, without a worthy opponent, James Bond is merely a sardonic man in a good suit with nothing to do. Aston Martin has long celebrated its illustrious connection with James Bond, however this time around the British marque is crossing over to the dark side and celebrating one of the franchise’s most notorious villains, Auric Goldfinger.
Auric Goldfinger is one of just two James Bond villains to have a movie named after him, with Goldfinger—the third outing in the film’s franchise— released in 1964 the first film to feature Bond’s Aston Martin DB5. The nefarious Goldfinger is considered one of the most memorable Bond villains of all time, with his iconic line “No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die,” often quoted.

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the marque’s first appearance in the James Bond franchise, Aston Martin has released a DB12 that appears to be touched by Midas himself. The Aston Martin DB12 Goldfinger Edition sees the marque’s flagship car imbued with Goldfinger-inspired details. The car is powered by a 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo engine with an output of 671 bhp and 590 ft lbs of torque, with the ability to go from 0 to 100km/h in 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 202km/h.

Just like James Bond’s beloved DB5, the Aston Martin DB12 Goldfinger Edition received a Silver Birch paint job, which is complemented by 21-inch multi-spoke wheels with a unique silver treatment and diamond finish. Other details include black brake calipers, bespoke gold side strakes, an Aston Martin logo in silver with a black enamel, and a chrome ‘Q’ fender badge to show its bespoke designation.

While the exterior certainly makes a statement, the interior of the DB12 Goldfinger Edition is something special. The leather upholstery on the sports seats is finished with the fluted stitching characteristic of the DB5 and features perforation in a Prince of Wales checked pattern. The driver console is accented with an abundance of 18-carat gold finishes, which appear on the drive mode rotary dial, roller controls, and the notched gear selector, the latter of which is inspired by the golden tracking device used by Bond in Goldfinger. The golden theme continues throughout the interiors, with gold metal fibres appearing alongside carbon fibre details on the trims. Astute Bond enthusiasts will also appreciate the red eight of hearts embroidered on the sun visor, a nod to the film’s infamous Miami pool scene.

Just 60 examples of the Aston Martin DB12 Goldfinger Edition will be produced, with pricing details not yet announced. However, as the saying goes, if you have to ask, you probably can’t afford it. The lucky few who can will also receive a custom car cover, key presentation box, and a clip of the Furka Pass scene in 35mm film. Sounds golden.
