Park the DB12. There’s A New Aston In Town

Half the wheels, twice the fun?

The latest in a series of releases proposing that two wheels just might be the new four, the Aston Martin .1R is an impossibly slick road bike. The release of the .1R follows similar two-wheelers from the likes of Porsche and Lamborghini. However, the British marque isn’t one to do things in halves, with Aston Martin purporting to have created the “world’s most bespoke, most advanced, and most meticulously engineered road bike.”

Created in collaboration with J.Laverack, a British outfit specialising in custom titanium bicycles, the .1R forges forward in terms of aesthetics. The ‘virtually boltless’ design allows the newcomer to take on a sleek, almost monolithic form akin to the marque’s many supercars. The frame is crafted by fusing carbon fibre tubes to 3D printed titanium lugs, resulting in the seamless finish while guaranteeing a structure that delivers optimal comfort and responsiveness for riders.

“Working with the team at Aston Martin has unlocked new ideas and innovations, the application of which has created a bicycle more advanced than anything currently available on the market,” says Oliver Laverack, co-founder of J.Laverack. “Every component is designed to be part of the whole and to marry perfectly with the adjoining elements, achieving an unsurpassed degree of integration, which lays the foundation for the J.Laverack Aston Martin .1R’s boltless design.”

The boltless design extends to traditionally clunky fixtures, with the stem and seatpost almost appearing to float atop the frame. The four-piston brake callipers were designed from scratch to ensure no exposed cables or hoses.

Atop the brake pistons sits a bespoke metal badge; measuring just 40 microns thin, it employs the same engineering process as the Aston Martin Valkyrie’s ‘lace wing’ badge. The carbon fibre elements of the design are covered with an intricate herringbone weave, which complements the smooth titanium surfaces.

“The J.Laverack Aston Martin .1R is essentially a titanium hypercar on two wheels,” says Marek Reichman, executive vice president and chief creative officer at Aston Martin. “The simple, clever genius is how we’ve fused the engineering advancements throughout the bike with a purity of performance design to deliver a viscerally exhilarating riding experience.”

Akin to the marque’s Q customisation program, owners of the Aston Martin .1R will use an online bicycle configurator which allows for a fully bespoke build, with the exact colours and materials available on Aston Martin’s high-performance sportscars on offer — think Alcantara, leather, and carbon fibre. Owners will also be invited to the Aston Martin headquarters in Gaydon, UK for a full fitting and to fine-tune their bicycle.

Pricing for the Aston Martin .1R bicycle is yet to be announced, however you can customise your potential ride on the Aston Martin x J.Laverack website.
