The BMW M3 Touring Is Racing Down Under Next Year

The hotly anticipated BMW M3 Touring is making its way down under, following confirmation of the new model in 2020. Uniting practicality with motorsport pedigree, the BMW M3 Touring represents the fourth body variant within the M3 and M4 lineup and will be offered exclusively in Competition specification with the xDrive all-wheel-drive system.

Keeping the engine and drivetrain the same as the current M3 and M4 Competition, at the heart of the BMW M3 Touring is a 3.0-litre six-cylinder in-line engine featuring M TwinPower Turbo technology, producing a maximum output of 500 bhp and 480 ft-lb torque. That translated to a reported 0-100km/h in 3.6 seconds with a top speed of 250km/h, with the latter increased to 280km/h should you opt for the M Driver’s Package.

The M3 Touring drivetrain features an alteration from the previous generation M3, with the dual-clutch transmission swapped out for the eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission. This is accompanied by Drivelogic, which offers three gearshift programs to cater to varying preferences and enhance the driving experience, as do variable sports steering and adaptive suspension.

The BMW M3 Touring interior takes on a distinctive aesthetic, with the integration of the new BMW iDrive with a curved display bringing a sense of connectivity and cohesion to the cockpit. The digital screen grouping comprises a 12.3-inch information display and a 14.9-inch central touchsceen. Seats are upholstered in merino leather to promote optimum support, while thermal comfort is achieved with seat heating.

Aesthetically, the BMW M3 Touring represents a happy marriage between practicality and performance. A muscular exterior is dominated by clean lines, differentiating it from other models within the M3 and M4 lineups. A frameless kidney grille, large side air intakes, powerfully sculpted wheel arches, and prominently extended side skirts, define the M3 Touring, as does a standard black high-gloss roof, regardless of the exterior colour. Resting within the arches are 19-inch front and 20-inch alloy wheels in a design unique to the M3 Touring, encased in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres.

The new BMW M3 Touring is slated for arrival in Australia early next year, with pricing to be confirmed.
