The Porsche 911 S/T Is For Drivers Who Love To, Well, Drive

The antithesis to the figures-driven game played by many marques when adding EV models to their stable, the Porsche 911 S/T is one for the purists. An ode to pure driving pleasure, the 911 S/T is the ideal amalgam of qualities from the GT3 RS and Sport Classic lines. The newcomer derives its name from the race car variant of the 911 S produced in limited numbers from 1969 onwards—internally dubbed the ‘911 ST’—which dominated the track at Le Mans and the Nurburgring.

A tribute to the 60th anniversary of the iconic design, the Porsche 911 S/T is limited to 1963 examples — a 12th September, 1963 debut of the 911.

Beneath the metal sits the 4.0-litre flat-six from the 911 GT3 RS, boasting an output of 518 bhp with a maximum rev limit of 9000 rpm. Coupled to a short-ratio six-speed manual transmission, its lightweight construction ensures maximum agility and all-out driving pleasure.

With a kerb weight of 1380kg, it’s the lightest model of the 992 generation. Weight reduction was achieved through a mostly carbon fibre construction, magnesium wheels, a race-style lithium-ion starter battery, and lightweight glass as standard. Rear-axle steering is foregone to further save weight, with the 911 S/T clocking in at 40kg lighter than a manual GT3 Touring.

Unlike other contemporary releases, the 911 S/T doesn’t concern itself with lap times, prioritising the visceral thrill of driving instead. That’s not to say it’s a slacker — going from 0 to 100km/h in 3.7 seconds and topping out at 300km/h. To save weight and add nuance in equal measure, the Porsche 911 S/T features a new lightweight clutch and single-mass flywheel, both adding a degree of complexity to the driving experience.

The optional Heritage Design Package sees the vehicle clad in Shoreblue Metallic, complemented by Ceramica rims; both exclusively available to this variant. The interiors continue the classic appeal, albeit with weight-saving measures employed. Carbon fibre bucket seats come standard, with cloth seat covers taking on a shade of Classic Cognac, accented by black pinstripes. There’s also two-tone leather trims in Black/Classic Cognac and a roof lining in perforated Dinamica.

The Porsche 911 S/T is now available for order in Australia, priced from $660,500AUD. Though if you’re reading this, it’s too late; they’re already sold out.
