A unity of fashion and film takes place in Fractal, a short film by Australian fashion house Aje. A striking way of showcasing the ethereal new Aje Pre-Fall 2022 collection, Fractal was directed by BAFTA and Emmy nominated filmmaker Shannon Murphy and stars rising actors like Mia Healey, Melanie Jarnson, Krew Boylan, and Sophie Wilde.

Tapping into the vibrant art of dopamine dressing, the Aje Pre-Fall 2022 collection, entitled Biophilia, is laden with flora and fauna-inspired hues and bold silhouettes. At the heart of the campaign video — made in collaboration with female-led production company Dollhouse Pictures — is “profoundly Deaf, non-verbal newcomer” Emawayat ‘Emi’ Elmitt, with the film focusing on Elmitt’s use of movement, signs, and shapes.

An Ethiopian-born Australian, Elmitt relocated to Australia through adoption and transitioned to ‘signing’ late in life, with Fractal guiding us through her journey without the use of dialogue. Contemporary dance serves as the primary means of self-expression, with the addition of a pentatonic beat and a kaleidoscope of shapes, colours, and hues creating a distinctive visual effect.

“Aje has been grounded in an appreciation for the arts from inception; the collaborative nature of film and its freedom to communicate through varied touchpoints was a natural manifestation of Pre-Fall’s artistry,” said Aje co-founder Edwina Forest of the impetus behind the short film. “An ode to the relationship between architecture, nature, and fashion.”
