The hotly-awaited partnership between Dior artistic director Kim Jones and Travis Scott has arrived, marking the first time a musician has collaborated on a full collection for the luxury French fashion house. Set to a soundtrack produced by Scott, the Dior x Travis Scott Cactus Jack Summer 2022 Collection pays homage to the state of Texas – Scott’s birthplace, and a state that stood out to Christian Dior himself when the designer first visited American in 1947 – and draws inspiration from the concept of gardens.

A conversation between friends and en exploration of two different cultures and eras, the collection, dubbed ‘Cactus Jack Dior’ (derived from Scott’s Cactus Jack Records label), begins in a recreation of Christian Dior’s childhood rose garden, which evolves into a cactus garden, referencing Scott’s upbringing in Houston. The colour palette takes its cues from the Texan landscape, with grand canyons and dusty deserts reflected in sun-drenched tones of pistachio, pale blues, mauve, tans, rust, and chocolate, with a few pops of neon green thrown in. Rattlesnake patterns and desert flowers also reference the Texan landscape, while the Dior toile de Jouy pattern gets a cactus-infused makeover.
Cactus Jack Dior weaves Cactus Jack themes into signature Dior codes, combining branding to create a new co-branded logo and recreating the classic Dior Oblique pattern to spell out ‘Jack’. At its heart, the Cactus Jack Dior collection is underpinned by slick tailoring, referencing the 1956 Dior ‘Arrow’ line with fluid trousers, slim overcoats, and high waisted garments with narrow armholes. Meanwhile, Kim Jones’ creation, the Tailleur Oblique, is juxtaposed with classic sportswear items like track pants and faded t-shirts. A series of hand-drawn graphics by Travis Scott reimagine the Dior logotype and appear as prints and embroidery alongside patches created with motifs of Houston, the Cactus Jack character, and archival Dior imagery.
Accessories see the Dior men’s Saddle bag doubled and connected via a sturdy stirrup handle, while hats fuse a French ‘bob’ hat with the American beanie. In terms of footwear, a skate-inspired sneaker makes its debut, featuring a sloped sole, while monk-strapped sandals combine multiple textures and materials.
