Todd Snyder x Bodega Proves Utilitarianism Can Be Artistic

Todd Snyder, one of the most influential menswear designers of our time, has teamed up with Boston-based powerhouse Bodega on a limited-edition collection that unites urban and natural inspirations to create a tightly curated capsule of cold-weather staples.

Dubbed ‘City Limits’ the collection sees Bodega’s streetwear stylings and outdoorsy influences transposed onto Todd Snyder’s signature city-meets-utility silhouettes. The lineup comprises two jackets, two trousers, an overshirt, a sweater, and socks, each exuding a sense of rugged heritage style.

“There’s a cross-country spirit about the collection,” Drew White, head designer at Bodega, said of the collaboration. “The silhouettes have a familiar, heritage feel, with Bodega’s contemporary sense of function and Todd’s sartorial point of view woven throughout the collection.”

“When I look at the collection, I see and feel the perfect blend of both brands in each garment,” added Todd Snyder, designer and founder of the eponymous brand. “Their versatility makes these pieces just as suitable for the city as they are for the country.”

A chunky crewneck Fair Isle sweater is adorned with a train track motif (also present on the socks), while a black corduroy shacket features tonal grey elbow patches. A pair of black welder trousers is executed in black corduroy to match the shacket; with tan tie-up herringbone pants taking on an off-duty feel. There’s also a reversible bomber jacket — olive green quilted nylon on one side and rusty wool camo print on the other.

“Growing up in the Northeast, the quilted jacket was an outerwear staple that got me through many winters,” notes White. “Our update makes this classic reversible, with an Italian heathered wool camo on one side and a quilted olive woven on the other. We also incorporated plenty of pocket space in the garment, a common detail found throughout the collection.”

However, the highlight of the collection is undeniably the guide jacket. Rendered in Italian wool, the zip-up style is adorned with a multicoloured tree-line motif that brings a taste of the great outdoors to the concrete jungle. It’s finished with a speckled liner from Three Looms — a Brooklyn-based studio specialising in Japanese fabrics — and features angular hunting pockets which reference hunting jackets from the early to mid-20th century.

“Bodega is a best-in-class example of collaboration and curation. It was inspiring to watch the team bring their distinct point of view on design and style to bear in reimagining some of my classic silhouettes,” says Snyder. “When I look at the collection, I see and feel the perfect blend of both brands in each garment. Their versatility makes these pieces just as suitable for the city as they are for the country.”

The linkup between Todd Snyder and Bodega didn’t come out of left field, with the latter having aided the former on campaign conception and execution for Snyder’s collaborations with Jack Purcell and L.L.Bean for the past three years. Over the years, the duo formed a friendship, with a mutual appreciation for one another’s work eventuating in a collaboration of their own.

As temperatures drop in the Northern Hemisphere, the Todd Snyder x Bodega capsule collection poses the ultimate cool weather wear. The collection drops on the 20th of October and will be available on the Todd Snyder and Bodega webstores. Pre-release signup is available at Todd Snyder via the link below.
