Virgil Abloh & Nigo Continue Their Sartorial Dialogue With LV² (Squared?)

Following their first collaboration in the form of LV² (Louis Vuitton Squared) last year, Virgil Abloh and Nigo have once again joined forces on another LV² collection. Louis Vuitton Squared Pre-Spring 2022 sees the duo draw upon their diverse cultural roots, with a particular focus on Nigo’s fashion upbringing in Japan and the way his provenance shaped his view of the western wardrobe.

Nigo’s personal collections of British subcultural clothing are suffused throughout the collection, imbuing ‘50s and ‘60s style tailoring with a Japanese sensibility. Workwear jackets get the colour-blocked, all-over monogrammed treatment, while preppy collegiate looks take shape with monogrammed pinstripe blazers, knit cardigans, cuffed straight-legged chinos, and chunky derby shoes emblazoned with red heart and tiger head graphic patches which reference Nigo’s Human Made label.

Tailored jackets fuse with kimonos in a hacking of traditional Japanese silhouettes, while one overcoat bears the LV monogram travelling downwards in vertical stripes in a way that resembles Japanese text. The collection also extends to accessories, with Japanese-style bags, monogrammed LV trunks featuring the Human Made tiger, and crossbody bags making an appearance.

The Louis Vuitton Squared collection will be available in two drops this year, with the first drop taking place on October 28th and the second on November 18th, 2021.
