With its black, cigar-shaped body, a trio of golden rings, and a handcrafted gold nib, the Montblanc Meisterstück is not merely a ‘pen’, it’s a writing instrument. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the iconic writing instrument, with Montblanc tapping acclaimed American director and screenwriter Wes Anderson to create a campaign to mark the occasion.

The campaign stars Wes Anderson himself, alongside actors Rupert Friend and Jason Schwartzman. Shot by Linus Sandgren in Anderson’s distinct visual aesthetic, the three-minute film follows the trio through the fictional (and might we say, visually rich) Montblanc Headquarters atop the Mont Blanc mountain. Embracing show and tell, the campaign utilises eccentric storytelling to convey the history of the brand while showcasing its multi-category portfolio, with watches and leather goods also getting a look in.
Anderson also uses the short film as an opportunity to introduce a new limited-edition writing instrument—fine, pen—into the lineup. Dubbed the Schreiberling (meaning ‘the scribbler’), it’ll be available for purchase next year.
The accompanying photographic campaign, shot by Charlie Gray, is also executed in Anderson’s signature style and features Rupert Friend, American actress Maude Apatow, Indian-American actor and designer Waris Ahluwalia, Korean actor Lee Jinuk, and Chinese actor Jing Boran.
