Italian Leather Craftsmanship & American Sports Culture Collide In Tod’s x Moncler Palm Angels

Two signature Tod’s silhouettes get a retro Miami Vice-worthy update in the Tod’s x 8 Moncler Palm Angels collaboration. Part of the Tod’s Factory — a creative laboratory where established and emerging designers are given the opportunity to present the Italian fashion house’s DNA through a new lens — the collaboration sees Tod’s team up with Francesco Ragazzi, creative director of Moncler and founder of Palm Angels.

Drawing from the hedonistic spirit of 1990s Miami, the Tod’s x Moncler Palm Angels channels a singular type of Americana. Presented in a campaign featuring supermodel Naomi Campbell and shot by photographer Quil Lemons, the collection takes on a louche approach to sports style. The collaboration between Tod’s and Moncler and Palm Angels centres on two Tod’s silhouettes. The leather Gommino driving shoes, emblazoned with a flame print and stamped with logos from each of the trio; and the Gommino winter boots, which are imbued with the spirit of mountain sports, displaying snow boot detailing and boasting the volume of a mountaineering boot.

“Tod’s iconic design was my starting point when I began this project,” said Francesco Ragazzi. “I have great admiration for what the brand stands for: the values it expresses are linked to our culture of beauty, which is what distinguishes us internationally and that is recognised by everyone.

“We talk a lot about Made in Italy but, in my opinion, it is never enough. Perhaps we are too used to being surrounded by beauty and sometimes we take it for granted. In reality, it is not at all obvious. Behind a brand like Tod’s, there is the dedication, the research, the craftsmanship of a team of skilled people not only technically, but also humanly, that transfer in what they do all their passion”, says Francesco Ragazzi.

The collaborative pieces are styled with a sense of irreverence and insouciance. Against a sun-drenched Miami backdrop, the Gommino boots are paired with sparkly plissé pants while funky flame loafers are styled with colourful plissé pants, a striking gold tracksuit, and a blue satin tracksuit with a matching flame puffer jacket.

Based on the notion that even in winter, “summer is a mood,” the Tod’s x Moncler Palm Angels unites craftsmanship with pop culture.
