Inspired by ‘D is for Desire’ in The A to Z of Stella McCartney, the Stella McCartney FW21 collection was born out of the collective desire to get dressed and get out of the house. And not just to the supermarket or for a quiet drink with friends. Like out out. A rich display of vibrant hues and bold prints, each look is a sartorial inducement to go out again (when it’s safe to do so, obviously).

“I miss going to a basement and listening to really loud music. And dancing, getting sweaty, getting messy and how that feels,” Stella McCartney said of the impetus behind the collection. “I closed my eyes and was transported to that place. This is what I saw.”
A ruched, body-hugging fuschia midi dress paired with glittery purple platform boots proposes a new way to do party dressing, while patterned sequin bodysuits and knits layered over glittery pieces are a celebration of textures and patterns. Warped checkerboard patterns appear on knit sweater and skirt sets, adding a youthful touch to a traditionally staid garment style.
Naturally, Stella McCartney prioritises sustainability, using eco-friendly materials throughout the collection. Over two-thirds of the Stella McCartney FW21 collection is made with sustainable materials, including ethically-sourced wool and PVC-free sequins. Bomber jackets utilise regenerated nylon and ECONYL while the bodycon dresses are crafted from forest-friendly viscose. Accessories also take shape in vegan-friendly materials, with the FW21 collection introducing smaller iterations of The Hobo bag and updated colorways of The Maxi Falabella.
With the past year seeing designers cater their collections to ‘the new normal’, Stella McCartney FW21 looks forward, towards a brighter, less socially distanced future.
