The 2022 BMW M5 CS Is The German Marque’s Most Powerful Model Yet

Not forever and not for everyone.

Levelling up the already speedy BMW M5 Competition is the 2022 BMW M5 CS. Part of the BMW M (for ‘motorsport’) division, the limited edition model is part of the ultra-sporty BMW CS models. Combining high-performance with aesthetic grandeur, driving (or riding in for that matter) a BMW M5 CS is an opulent experience.

Under the hood, you’ll find a 4.4-litre V8 engine boasting 635 hp and 553 ft-lbs torque; making the BMW M5 CS the most powerful car in the history of BMW M. Despite its impressive stats, don’t expect the whiplash often associated with powerful cars; the BMW M5 CS is a definitively luxurious experience, toeing the line between a smooth, comfortable drive and high-performance.

Complete with eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic and M xDrive all-wheel-drive system, the 2022 BMW M5 CS is well-equipped to handle whatever comes its way. But, if you’re feeling a little more daring, there’s the option to test the M5 CS’s limits using the 2WD mode.

Put your foot down and the BMW M5 CS races from 0-100km/h in just 3 seconds and from 0 – 200km/h in 10.3 seconds, with a top speed of 305km/h.

The application of lightweight design elements (think liberal use of carbon fibre and separate rear bucket seats) makes the M5 CS around 70kg lighter than its inspiration, the M5 Competition. Each facet of the BMW M5 CS has been designed with increased performance in mind, like the retuned bearing springs at the front and rear axle and further refined damper control. The chassis has been adapted to the lower vehicle weight, heightening the performance potential of the  standard mixed-size Pirelli P Zero Corsa track tyres.

Inside, you’ll find M Carbon seats in the front and two individual rear seats at the back, all adorned in black Merino leather covers which feature head-turning contrast panels and decorative stitching in Mugello Red. Adorning the all-important headrests is an outline of the legendary Nürburgring circuit, as well as illuminated M5 logos on the front seats.

Only 20 models are set to make their way over to Australian shores, set to be sold around mid-2021. Starting at $305,000AUD drive away, they’re a solid step up of around $50,000 from the Competition.
