The Fifth Generation Range Rover Gets A Distinctly Modern Facelift

The new 2022 Range Rover is here and she’s…had a little work done. While the Range Rover has long been the blueprint for luxury SUVs, the fifth generation iteration takes it a step further. Sleek and streamlined, the 2022 Range Rover almost sands over the edges of its predecessor, ridding it of visible finishes and taking on a simpler yet more striking stance.

The 2022 Range Rover is reflective of a modern design approach while retaining the key design signatures the brand has become known for; the falling roof line, boxy front, and low rising sill. However the fifth generation Range Rover manages to coalesce these features into a seemingly sculpted-from-solid appearance, with hidden-until-lit rear lights, flush glazing, and smooth door handles that only appear once unlocked. Not just a pretty face (and body), the 2022 Range Rover boasts a drag coefficient of only 0.3, cementing it as the lowest of any luxury SUV in the world.

“It is possible to respect your DNA and still project forwards – and that is what we have done,” commented Gerry McGover, chief creative officer at Jaguar Land Rover. “The modernist nature of our design philosophy doesn’t follow fashion or trend. It’s free from superfluous detail, resulting in a form which speaks to modernity, yet is full of charm and delivers new levels of emotional engagement. The new Range Rover is quite simply the most desirable ever created.”

Naturally, what’s on the inside is equally as important and the 2022 Range Rover extends the luxurious experience with space for up to seven adults. The cabin is understated yet spacious, with an instrument cluster for the driver and a touchscreen infotainment centre in the lower dash. The presence of next-generation active noise cancellation technology allows the 2022 Range Rover to deliver one of the quietest cabins on the road, while the introduction of air purification technology that reduces odours and pathogens is a welcome – and very 2021 – touch.

The new Range Rover marks the introduction of flexible Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA-Flex) which optimises body rigidity and noise isolation. Available in models ranging from a V8 petrol twin turbo to mild hybrids and an extended range of plug-in hybrid offerings (with an all-electric range of up to 100km and made with sustainable, leather-free materials), Jaguar Land Rover is gearing up for the release of an all-electric Range Rover in 2024.

A lesson in subtlety, the 2022 Range Rover epitomises modern elegance with its luxurious yet unassuming design.

The 2022 Range Rover is available to order in Australia starting today, priced frm $220,200 onwards.
