Ferrari has unveiled the third addition to its exclusive Icona series, the Ferrari Daytona SP3. Drawing inspiration from Ferrari’s history-making victory in the 1967 24 Hours of Daytona, where the Maranello marque took home the top three positions, the Daytona SP3 has racing at its core. The first release to carry the ‘Daytona’ moniker, the Ferrari Daytona SP3 is underpinned by the same racing car fundamentals stipulated by Ferrari chief engineer Mauro Forghieri in the 1960s; engine, chassis, and aerodynamics.

Joining the Monza SP1 and SP2 in the Ferrari Icona series, the heart of the Daytona SP3 is undeniably the mid-rear-mounted 6.5-litre V12, delivering a massive 828bhp and 514 ft-lb of torque, making it the most powerful Ferrari engine ever created. With a top speed of 340km/h, the Ferrari Daytona SP3 goes from 0-100km/h in 2.85 seconds and 0-200km/h in just 7.4 seconds.
Blending retro styling with contemporary materials, the Daytona SP3 is built entirely from composite materials that celebrate its sculptural form. Like the predecessors that inspired it, the Daytona SP3 solely employs passive aerodynamics, relying on elements like vents and chimneys that extract low-pressure air from the underbody, as well as aero flicks to increase downforce.
A limited-run vehicle, just 599 units of the Ferrari Daytona SP3 will be produced, though whether any make it down under is yet to be seen. Pricing starts from €2 million ($3.14 million AUD).
