The New Range Rover Sport Looks To Take Back The Supercharged SUV Market

Before there was the Porsche Cayenne or the Aston Martin DBX or the Jaguar F-Pace, Hollywood celebrities and wealthy elite with a proclivity for procreation has only one option to transport a growing brood in style: the Range Rover. While for many marques, the luxury SUV was a hail Mary pass designed to grasp hold of a customer base increasingly turning away from sporty coupes and toward practical transportation, for Range Rover, luxurious utility is in its DNA.

Now in a seeming bid to recapture the market it created, the new Range Rover Sport asserts its effortless appeal through a sculpted muscular silhouette defined by taut surfacing, a dynamic stance, and its signature profile. The third-generation vehicle features short overhangs, a sleek front grille, and steeply raked glazing which contribute to its unmistakable presence on the road.

Range Rover Sport buyers are spoilt for choice when it comes to engines, with the second-generation Supercharged V8 swapped out for a new V8 Twin Turbo 530PS. Other variants include standard six-cylinder 48V mild-hybrid petrol and diesel engines, and a P510e plug-in hybrid model.

Driving experience is enhanced with advanced chassis technologies which boast a 35% higher stiffness over the previous Range Rover Sport, working cohesively with a set of systems governed by the Integrated Chassis Control system.

“Land Rover’s pioneering MLA-Flex architecture and the latest chassis systems come together to deliver the highest levels of dynamism we’ve ever seen on Range Rover Sport,” said Nick Collins, executive director of vehicle programs at Jaguar Land Rover. “Integrated Chassis Control governs the comprehensive suite of innovations, coordinating everything from the latest switchable-volume air suspension system to our Dynamic Response Pro electronic active roll control.”
