The Era Of The Crossover Continues With Fendi x Marc Jacobs

In an age where esteemed luxury fashion houses Versace and Fendi can perform the sartorial equivalent of a wife swap, anything goes. Following the debut of select pieces designed by Marc Jacobs as part of the Italian luxury fashion house’s collab-laden 25th anniversary celebration at the end of last year, Fendi creative director Kim Jones handed over the reins to the house and has released a complete capsule designed by Marc Jacobs (don’t call it a collaboration!) for Summer 2023.

The capsule collection sees Jacobs explore the cultural and social connotations of clothing in contemporary settings, and the enduring relevance of the Fendi Baguette — designed by Silvia Venturini Fendi and first released in 1997 — today. Comprising menswear and womenswear, the collection is rendered in a distinct colour palette of silver, grey, white, fluorescent yellow, and black. The pieces themselves take on a utilitarian approach, reflecting the functionality of the Baguette through an abundance of pockets with fastenings that resemble those of the iconic bag.

The Fendi Roma logo gets the Marc Jacobs treatment, with the reinterpreted form a constant throughout the collection; blown up onto cosy robes or as an understated jacquard pattern on a grey nylon polo shirt and trouser set.

“In my opinion, Marc is the King of fashion in America,” proclaims Kim Jones, creative director of couture and womenswear at Fendi. “He is also a master of branding and experimentation, particularly with logos. Here, Marc has designed a Fendi collection – it is not a collaboration, rather it is an interpretation. In it, there is a sense of freedom in excess and joy, where he was allowed to do whatever he wanted.”

The Fendi x Marc Jacobs collaboration sorry, reinterpretation campaign is lensed by Mario Sorrenti and stars Kendall Jenner, Coi Leray, Sora Choi, Wali Deutsch, Valentine Alvarez, Anok Yai, and Luke Lenski.

The Fendi x Mac Jacobs collection is now available via the Fendi webstore.
