Hypebeast Meets Heritage In The Off-White For Church’s Collab

Brogues for the based.

Heritage brogues get a definitively hypebeast twist in the Off-White for Church’s collaboration. Marking one of the last partnerships late designer and creative director Virgil Abloh worked on, the capsule collection comprises two pairs of shoes, the Burwood 3 O.W. for men and Burwood W O.W. for women.

Initially introduced in 1970, the Church’s Burwood 3 O.W. gets remixed with Off-White signatures. Retaining the classic oxford brogue silhouette, the black high-shine leather shoes feature “SPECIAL EVENTS” printed in white across the counter and vamp, and “SHOELACES” on the cotton laces. Providing the shoes with a utilitarian feel is a dark green Off-White branded leather zip tie tag. Similarly, the Burwood W O.W. oxford brogue shoe for women gets the same treatment in terms of Off-White branding, with the primary difference in the pieces lying in the construction and soles; the Burwood 3 O.W. is made with Goodyear construction and is fitted with a double leather sole and rubber heel, while the Burwood W O.W. uses Blake construction and an all-rubber sole.

While the bold quotation marks signature approach works well on the likes of Nike and Rimowa, somehow it doesn’t quite translate to the centuries-old heritage appeal of Church’s, with the text looking rather jarring and out of place. As such, the collaborative effort renders the resultant shoes somewhat unwearable to the “SPECIAL EVENTS” they want to attend, and more befitting the streets.

Both styles are priced at $1,250 USD ($1700 AUD) and are available via the Church’s webstore.
