Anne Hathaway & Zendaya Star In Unsubtly Sapphic Bulgari Campaign

Italian luxury house Bulgari has released its latest ad campaign. Titled ‘Unexpected Wonders’, the accompanying video campaign directed by Oscar-winning Italian director Paolo Sorrentino stars actresses Anne Hathaway and Zendaya who — rather unexpectedly — exude major sapphic energy throughout the entirety of the two-and-a-half-minute film.

Shot in a lavish mansion in Rome, the film is narrated by both actresses, with a voiceover inveigling viewers to “search for joy and wonder in every moment, gleaming beauty in the most surprising places.” Both Hathaway and Zendaya are adorned in Bulgari’s Eden The Garden of Wonders high jewellery collection, with the former also sporting a watch from the Divas’ Dream collection.

“When the light comes in, everything seems possible,” describes a voiceover. “First, the cold. But, then comes the warmth, and the breath of freedom. To lose yourself, and to find yourself again.” As with many a high jewellery ad, the visuals are beautiful and the plotline is thin, with aspirational montages of both actresses staring longingly at each other across a bed, dancing in a palazzo (wherein flowers rain down from the ceiling), and watching the golden hour together on the balcony.

Given the high jewellery collection is titled Eden The Garden of Wonders, we can only conclude that each actress is an unexpected wonder in the Garden of Eden, and the untimely — and not at all suspicious — deaths of both of their wealthy husbands have brought them together. As the film ends and the duo look out upon the Eternal City, Zendaya rests her head on Hathaway’s shoulder. “To discover unexpected wonders,” she remarks, ostensibly referring to their budding romance (or perhaps about the jewellery they’re wearing, but we’ll go with the former).
