“It’s the idea of a girl in a landscape where she doesn’t belong,” said Saint Laurent creative director Anthony Vaccarello of the Saint Laurent Winter 21 collection showcased in Iceland earlier this year. Now, Vaccarello proves the Saint Laurent girl – or woman – doesn’t require a rugged coastline or rocky cliff faces to experience a sense of disconnect, with the latest Saint Laurent Fall 21 campaign.

More akin to a character analysis than a classic fashion advertisement, the Saint Laurent Fall 21 campaign is rendered in the French fashion house’s preferred black-and-white colour palette and lensed by noted fashion photographer David Sims. In a slightly voyeuristic video clip filmed by Sims, French actress Béatrice Dalle, known for her performance in the 1986 film Betty Blue, experiences something of a mental breakdown, dropping to her feet with tears streaming down her face. Naturally, Dalle is clad entirely in Saint Laurent, with the exception of her bare feet.
The accompanying photographic campaign follows a similar theme and features both familiar and new faces like Abbey Lee, Australian actress and model; Indya Moor, non-binary actor and activist, best known for playing the role of Angel Evangelista in the television series Pose; Talia Ryder, American teen stage and film actress known for her breakout role as Hortensia in the Broadway cast of Matilda the Musical; and Sihana Shalaj, Kosovan international model.
