Saint Laurent Rive Droite Showcases The Erotically Evocative Work Of Lin Zhipeng

The latest Saint Laurent Rive Droite exhibition showcases the work of Beijing-based photographer Lin Zhipeng (who also goes by the self-appointed nickname ‘No. 223’, after the policeman in Wong Kar-wai’s film Chungking Express) across stores in Paris and Los Angeles. Zhipeng’s work also emulates the Hong Kong director’s poetic and dreamy atmosphere, as well as the sense of solitude and mystique of many of his films’ characters.

Inspired by the likes of Guy Bourdin, Wolfgang Tillmans, and Juergen Teller, Lin Zhipeng captures the alternative spirit and youth cutlery within the often conservative Chinese cultural context. His spontaneous photographs paint a portrait of a young generation indulging in love and life while vacillating between moments of joy and melancholy and capturing both playful sexuality and the innate human desire to be loved in an otherwise indifferent and continually evolving society.

For the Rive Droite exhibition, Zhipeng — or No. 223 — delves into his intimate memories of loved ones; photographed from 2016 to 2019, the photographs span across China, Tibet, Southeast Asia, Japan, and Europe.
